Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- I have read and followed the guidelines for the section in which I am submitting my contribution.
- The contribution has not previously been published in a peer-reviewed journal or anthology, nor is it currently under review. I will disclose any preprints or other prior publications in the comments to the editorial team.
- All rights to the submitted article belong to me and, where applicable, to the other authors listed. I have appropriately cited all verbatim or paraphrased quotations from other works. I acknowledge that texts found to violate these rules may be publicly marked as retracted articles after publication, with the specific violation noted.
- I have included information regarding the respective authors or rights holders for any materials, images, etc., used in the submitted contribution.
- To the extent that I have used AI tools to create content, I have made this transparent in the contribution. I bear full responsibility for the accuracy of all content—including the accuracy and completeness of all references—and have ensured that no plagiarism is included and that all sources are correctly cited.
- I have provided information on the research materials used in the form of a Data Availability Statement, in accordance with the guidelines of the Research Data Policy (https://opengenderjournal.de/research-data-policy).
- I acknowledge that my submission will be peer-reviewed. It is possible that the contribution will not be accepted for publication or that revisions to the content and a resubmission will be requested.
- I consent to the publication of my personal information (name, institutional/biographical details, email address, and, if applicable, website URL) provided as part of this submission.
Research Articles
In the "Research articles" section, we publish original scholarly articles that make independent contributions to gender studies. Submitted manuscripts must be original works, meaning they should not have been previously published in a peer-reviewed journal or edited volume. Preprints and other prior publications must be disclosed. All research articles undergo a double-anonymous peer review. Submitted manuscripts are considered for review if they meet the formal requirements of a scholarly article (e.g., addressing a research question, considering the state of research, transparent handling of methods, concepts, and terms). The maximum length is 50,000 characters, including spaces.
querelles-net: Reviews
The section "querelles-net: Reviews" contains reviews of publications from all thematic areas of Gender Studies. Academic reviews provide an overview of important new publications and current research foci. They serve not only as a source of information, but also as independent contributions in which the positioning and contextualisation of the research results discussed is sought. Both printed and electronically published works are reviewed.

Forum
Gender Studies thrives on controversy. In the "Forum" section, authors take up current debates within Gender Studies and thus provide impulses for the development of the field. The submitted essays, dialogues and debates are selected by an editorial team. We particularly welcome contributions that continue existing debates in gender studies and in which forms of knowledge acquisition/transmission and scientific criticism are realised beyond the research article.

Open Gender Journal does not charge authors any costs for publication (so-called Article Processing Charges, APC) or submission (so-called Submission Charges). Authors are encouraged to share their contributions in other places, such as repositories.
