Peer Review

OGJ works in accordance with the currently recognized standards for scholarly publications. In the section "Research Articles", OGJ exclusively releases first publications which provide an independent scholarly contribution to the field and have gone through an anonymized review procedure.

  • Editorial team assessment: firstly, the eligibility of submissions is assessed by the editorial team.
  • Peer review: two (or more in case of doubt) external experts verify the scholarly quality of the submissions.
  • Anonymity: the procedure takes place as a double-anonymous review. Submitted manuscripts are entirely anonymized before the reviewing process, which means that all indications as to the identity of the authors are removed. (The ableist term "double blind" is also commonly used for the double-anonymous assessment, although this is now also rejected by relevant organisations (Aides 2020).)
  • Transparency: the authors are able to follow the procedural stages in the editorial system. The reviews are made available to the authors and, with their consent, to the reviewers.

Through this review procedure, authors, editorial team and reviewers ensure together the quality of the contributions.

The editorial team is aware of the heterogeneity of the cultures of knowledge within gender studies and takes this into consideration in the choice of suitable reviewers. This avoids favoring certain schools of thoughts over others, as well as doing justice to the variety of perspectives in and on the field of gender studies.
