Special Issues
In addition to the annual issue, the Open Gender Journal also publishes special issues to reflect current focal points of trans- and interdisciplinary gender research.
Fachgesellschaft Geschlechterstudien publishes its annual conferences as Special Issues of the Open Gender Journal. This option is also open to selected other conferences or working contexts. We cordially invite you to submit proposals that fit the journal's range of topics.
As editors of the special issue, you will work closely with the Openn Gender Journal's editorial team and benefit from their editorial and technical experience.
Text genres and editorial quality assurance
You can offer various sections within the special issues:
- editorial
- keynotes (for conference publications)
- research articles
- conference contributions
- artistic contributions (as far as technically and licence-wise possible)
- Forum: debates, interviews, conference reports and commentaries
Depending on the section and text genre, different forms of quality assurance are possible, such as a double-anonymised peer review for research contributions. We will be happy to advise you on the specific organisation of the review process.
As the editor of the special issue, you are free to limit the circle of authors or to open the Call for Papers to the wider specialist community. In addition to the Call for Papers, you can also specifically invite articles for your special issue; these will be labelled as ‘invited articles’ on the cover page when they are published.
You can also publish an article in your special issue yourself. If it is a research article with double-anonymised peer review, it will be supervised by the editorial team to guarantee the anonymity of the review.
Request a special issue
If you are interested in publishing a special issue in the Open Gender Journal, please submit a special issue proposal. On the basis of the proposal, the editorial team will decide whether the collaboration will be realised. This proposal should include the following points:
- proposed title
- background information for publication (e.g., context, issues under discussion)
- information on the planned sections, initial plans for peer review and the expected scope of the special issue
- information and contact details of the editors
- a preliminary timetable (e.g., deadline for submissions)
If you are planning a special issue for a conference, please let us know in good time. This will give you the opportunity to communicate the option of publication in the special issue during the conference and to publish the Call for Papers promptly afterwards. Our aim is to publish the Special Issue within one year of a conference. Please send your proposal and any questions to the editor-in-chief, Dr. Kathrin Ganz (kathrin.ganz@opengenderjournal.de).
