Monitoring
Since 2023, the Open Gender Journal publishes an annual overview of key figures on its activities, which authors, the professional public, and funders can use to compare and evaluate the journal. In doing so, we follow the guidelines of Plan S and KOALA. The statistics of the Open Journal System serve as data basis.

Monitoring Report for 2024
In 2024, 76 new articles were submitted to the Open Gender Journal. 38 research articles, five book reviews, two forum contributions and one editorial were intended for the annual issue(s). In addition, the increase in submissions of around 140 percent results from three planned special issues. A total of 31 contributions were submitted for these in 2024.
The editorial team requested 65 reviews via OJS in 2024. However, the actual number of requests is higher, as new reviewers are initially contacted by email. 51 reviews were submitted during the year. Once again, the almost doubling compared to the previous year can be explained by the increased number of submissions.
For 2024, the Open Gender Journal has a rejection rate of 60 percent. In only three cases was this rejection made after the peer review, 83 percent of the rejected submissions were rejected before the review (“desk rejections”). As explained in the monitoring report for 2023, these desk rejections are due to a lack of publication maturity and the authors receive detailed feedback, often combined with an offer to resubmit a revised version.
In 2024, an average of 327 days passed between submission and publication of the articles, most of which were again accounted for by the revision phase after peer review. During this phase, the authors are closely supervised by the editorial team and once again supported by external editing by the agency Qwir text + design. The fact that the publication process took longer than in previous years is due to the fact that work could be completed on several articles that had already been in the editorial process for some time.
For 2025, we are looking forward to the publication of the above-mentioned Special Issues, which represent an innovation for the Open Gender Journal.
