Wissensräume wie Universitäten, Parlamente und aktivistische Organisationen stellen Personen, die nicht selbstverständlich in diese Räumen „passen“, oft vor Schwierigkeiten. Sie sind geprägt von diskursiven, verhaltensbezogenen, somatischen und materiellen Normen in Bezug darauf, wessen Anwesenheit und Teilhabe willkommen ist und welches bzw. wessen Wissen als un-/glaubwürdig gilt. Mitglieder minorisierter Gruppen müssen also ihre Präsenz in ihnen feindlich gesonnenen Wissensräumen oft auf Arten verhandeln, die über abstrakte epistemologische Überlegungen hinausgehen. In diesem Artikel diskutiere ich auf der Basis von semi-strukturierten Interviews, wie LGBTIQ*-Aktivist*innen und -Wissenschafter*innen in Österreich Wissensräume navigieren, in denen sie mitunter als „space invaders“ behandelt werden; insbesondere, wie sie versuchen, ihr „Nicht-Passen“ („mis-fit“) in solchen Räumen hervorzuheben oder herunterzuspielen. Außerdem zeichne ich nach, wie diese Versuche entweder überhaupt scheitern oder auf unerwartete Weise nach hinten losgehen können, und wie solche „misfires“ in Verbindung mit breiteren gesellschaftlichen Normen und intersektionalen Ausschlüssen stehen.
