Abstract

The anthology "Global Contestations of Gender Rights" brings together interdisciplinary perspectives on the worldwide authoritarian contestation of gender-related rights in a global context. The book has three strengths: 1. It fullfils its own claim to interdisciplinarity, intersectionality and globality. 2. It offers a qualified overview of the empirical and theoretical background and the development of the global authoritarian backlash. 3. It develops a discussion across various contributions that examines the ambivalent position of human rights and their underlying universalist claim in the context of the global contestation of gender rights.
